Journalism and Me

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

What inspires me in writing is the journalistic disparities that we are exposed to in the constantly developing digital world. With 600 million blogs worldwide and 56 million newspapers sold daily across the globe, it highlights the power that journalists hold to inspire and influence such an expansive audience.

The main writers that influence me are the ones who are authentic with their readers. The ones who produce media that criticises and invent ideas that affect each of their readers in a different way and also the ones who take a big picture and dissect it - bringing new angles to life, adding a whole new shape to the story, taking your thoughts where they wouldn’t have ventured before. One example is Flora Beverley’s blog called Food Fitness Flora. However, ironically, it’s not the food or fitness sections that catch my eye – it’s the sustainabilty entries that inritgue me the most, as it isn’t filled with the same old ways to help the environment, instead she looks into the more unique ways such as the effect of air pollution on running and eco-friendly yoga mats – matters which I doubt many have considered before.

As the world is more connected than it ever has been, being ignorant of what’s happening across our globe is no longer a possibilty. We are constantly surrounded by journalism, whether it be flicking on the radio, being online or watching TV, it would be hard to remain oblivious in your own bubble. This constant flow of news and information is what drives people’s passions and ignites their fires, which start from just one journalist lighting a spark.

For me, I aspire to have that spark that energises people’s minds, giving them new outlooks and ambitions to improve the world’s concepts and notions.
