Students from the University of Portsmouth have gone the extra mile by raising £3,600 to help children in intensive care.

The university athletics’ team (UPAC) had 21 members take part in the ABP Southampton 5km, 10km, half and full marathon on Sunday.
They raised money, on JustGiving, for the charity Friends of PICU — an organisation who donate vital equipment and support to children in intensive care across the South Coast.
At 19 years old, Harrison Chamber is one of the members who ran the full marathon.
‘I struggled with physical disabilities when I was younger and the marathon has always been the goal I have aimed for,’ he said, ‘It was a lot harder than expected but I received lots of support from spectators and friends during the race, which kept me from stopping.’
Luke Hollis, a 21-year-old student, took part in the half marathon, along with nine other members of UPAC.
‘It was a challenging but rewarding experience,’ Luke said, ‘I feel proud to have been part of such an amazing team, supporting an important charity’.
Amy Johnson, who also completed the half marathon, added how emotional it was to take part in the event and to see other runners finish their races.
Seven members of the club completed the 10km race, including second-year student, Beatrice Hanney.

Beatrice spoke about crossing the finish line and how amazing it felt to complete the run.
‘I am so proud that I did it,’ she added, ‘my family have been helped by this charity, so I am so grateful for them and I hope the money we raise will help other families in need’.
