Parenting charity collects hundreds of donations from Portsmouth residents to support Ukraine

A local Portsmouth charity has filled two vans with donations to help people fleeing Ukraine.

The Parenting Network are taking four team members to the Ukraine and Poland border.
They asked on Facebook for supplies such as nappies and protein bars to be donated to Portsmouth Guildhall — where the charity is based. Within five days, Portsmouth residents had donated enough to fill two vans and raised around £10,000.
Jess Piper from Belmont Street, donated first aid supplies, after seeing the request on Facebook.
The 21 year-old said: ‘It’s so heart-warming to see the city come together to support those in need, knowing the city of Portsmouth is so generous with their time and money to donate all these items.’

The Parenting Network support local families with financial stress. However, after seeing families in Ukraine need urgent help, they decided to broaden their work to Easten Europe.
They are just one of many Portsmouth charities donating to Ukraine.
Portsmouth Grammar School volunteered alongside the charity — with 50 of their students helping load the vans.
Matt Foster, CEO of Dadzclub — a local community supporting fathers — is one of the charity workers going to Poland on Friday. He said: ‘I’m feeling a mixture of emotions. It’s been a tearful morning. I’ve told my kids that I’ll be okay and will talk to them multiple times a day.’
The team are planning to stay in Poland for one week but are prepared to stay longer if help is needed.
The charity has expressed their gratitude for Portsmouth residents and thanked them for their generosity and time.
