2021 will be a good year for sports

Updated: Feb 22, 2021

2020 held many disappointments for sport, with numerous big events being cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19.

However, turning a new leaf into 2021, meant that there is hope for sport events this Summer - with the Euros, Olympics, Rugby World Cup and Wimbledon all in the works to go ahead this year.

Fingers crossed this year will not be a repeat of 2020’s historic disasters.

The Euros kick off this Summer on the 11th June where we’ll see 51 matches played across 12 cities. When the tournament reaches England, Wembley Stadium will host the semi finals and finals to determine the winner of this major competition on the 11th July.

2021 will also be a good year for rugby! With the Lions Tour of South Africa (26th June) and the Women’s Rugby World Cup (18th September) being streamed, where we can watch the reigning champions New Zealand play Australia this Summer.

On the 28th June, we will see the return of the Wimbledon Championships, with big names such as Novak Djokavic and Serena Williams making a reappearance to the courts.

If you’re not a football, rugby or tennis fan you won’t be missing out, as there are 339 other events to watch in the Summer Olympics this year - hosted in Japan. Commencing on the 23rd July and concluding on the 8th August, gives us 2 weeks of incredible talent across varying sports - including 5 new events: baseball, skateboarding, surfing, sport climbing and karate.

However, not only is there the Olympics, but also the Paralympics which starts on the 24thAugust until the 5th September, showcasing 539 incredible events, performed by inspiring athletes.

The Summer of 2021 is looking good for sport events - where we can hopefully unite nationally and globally once again - to continue what 2020 couldn’t fulfil.
